Rangers 0-0 Falkirk: What McGlynn said

just now (200+ words) Falkirk manager John McGlynn tells BBC Scotland: "We're a little bit disappointed, because we think we're better than that. "We're not far away from being a right good side and we've got to take belief from coming here and putting in a dogged performance. "We turned the ball over too much and that's where we feel we could have done better. Still, we're very proud of the players - it's not easy coming here. "Our fans are going home happy because it's a good point. We go to the next game and Motherwell are a very good side. We have to dust ourselves down and get ready for that." More than 250 bikers join Christmas gift appeal

3+ min ago (330+ words) Sixteen years ago John Judson had an idea - to gather a few biker friends together and donate gifts to a Christmas present appeal. Since then the event has snowballed and on Sunday more than 250 bikers rode in convoy to deliver hundreds of presents to Newark Salvation Army in Balderton, Nottinghamshire. It makes "a massive difference to children in need" according to John who is astonished at how the event has grown from just 17 bikers in the first year. "You feel humble that all these people have turned out for something you've done," he told the BBC. Mr Judson has handed the mantle to fellow biker Mark Spindley who organised this year's event. "This is all about supporting the Salvation Army and getting toys for the children who aren't so lucky on Christmas morning," he explained. Mr Spindley, who led the…...

Worcester City Council backs campaign encouraging street play

8+ min ago (368+ words) A campaign to get children playing out in the street has been backed by Worcester City Council. Play Streets encourages neighbours to get together and create a safe space in quiet residential roads for children to play together, usually involving closing the street to through traffic for a short time. Green councillor Katie Collier, who described the scheme as "low cost, high impact" said outdoor play had declined 50% in a generation with traffic, fear of crime and "unwelcoming public spaces" among the reasons. A motion put forward by Collier and backed by councillors includes a commitment to review signs "that may unintentionally discourage informal outdoor play". Residents can still get in and out of the street in their cars during Play Streets events, but are encouraged to drive slowly, with children having right of way. The scheme gives children the…...

Indonesia searches for hundreds missing in deadly floods

34+ min ago (445+ words) Rescuers in Indonesia are searching for at least 400 people who have been reported missing, many believed to be buried under landslides, after cyclonic rains caused disastrous flooding nearly a week ago. The death toll on the island of Sumatra has risen to more than 440, the government says. Aid has been sent into affected areas by air and by sea, but some villages have yet to receive anything, and there are reports of people stealing food and water to survive. Some foreign aid has arrived, with Malaysia sending medical supplies to Aceh, one of the worst-hit provinces. Millions have been affected by heavy rains across South-East Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. An exceptionally rare tropical storm, named Cyclone Senyar, caused catastrophic landslides and flooding in Indonesia, with homes swept away and thousands of buildings submerged. People are missing in…...

Ukraine talks 'productive' but more work needed, Rubio says

37+ min ago (509+ words) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says talks with Ukraine over a deal to end the Russia-Ukraine war were productive, but there's "more work to be done". The talks, held in Florida, were attended by a Ukrainian delegation led by national security council secretary Rustem Umerov, Ukraine's new chief negotiator. Also present were President Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Witkoff is due to visit Moscow for talks next week. Umerov was brought in to replace Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's top negotiator, Andriy Yermak, after he quit following an anti-corruption raid on his home. Sunday's meeting is the latest step in two weeks of intense diplomatic activity. It was sparked by the leaking of a 28-point US peace plan which shocked Ukraine and its European allies for appearing to favour Russia, which invaded Ukraine nearly four…...

Arteta has 'flavour' Arsenal could have ended 'immense' week with win at Chelsea

42+ min ago (652+ words) 10-man Chelsea hold Arsenal to draw in feisty London derby Facing Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Chelsea inside a week - a run any side would find an extreme test - and earning two wins and a battling draw cannot be considered anything other than a positive return but Arsenal may be left feeling they could have done even better. After superb performances in beating rivals Spurs before dispatching Bayern at the Emirates, Sunday's match with Chelsea was always going to be difficult with recovery time limited. And preparations were further hit with key centre-back William Saliba ruled out with a knock picked up in training - the France international set for more tests. Given that context, a 1-1 draw secured through Mikel Merino's header to leave the Gunners five points clear at the top of the table is far from a poor result. But…...
