Type-Safe Regex Matching from First Principles

just now (887+ words) I came across a post from ArkType recently: Regex patterns being parsed at compile time! TypeScript inferring exact string literals like "ac" | "abc" from the pattern "^ab?c$". Not just string, but the actual possible matches. That got me curious. Regex has always been a runtime thing, you write a pattern, match strings against it, and the type system just sees string everywhere. But this was doing it all at compile time. I wanted to understand how, so I decided to build a minimal version myself. ArkType Regex is a compile-time regex parser written entirely in TypeScript's type system. Instead of just validating that a string might match a regex at runtime, it infers the exact string literal types that a regex can produce. The implementation uses Template literal types to manipulate strings at the type level. The parser reads…...

Your Party members vote to keep original name after debate

just now (177+ words) YOUR Party members have voted to keep its original name. The party also adopted its constitution and leadership model on Sunday amid fierce factional in-fighting between Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana's rival camps. Your Party won out over Our Party, For the Many and Popular Alliance. Sultana's camp won out in a key battle over whether Your Party should admit members of other political parties. Members of the Socialist Workers' Party (SWP) were alerted that they would be barred from entering on Friday night just before the conference at the ACC in Liverpool kicked off the following morning. Your Party members voted for an amendment to the organisation's constitution to allow members of other political parties to join. These will have to be identified and approved by the party's ruling body. At the centre of that would be a chair,…...

59-year-old casual steakhouse chain closed all its locations

just now (915+ words) When a national chain closes, it may linger in the form of one or only a few single remaining locations. York Steak House, for example, stopped being a national chain in the mid-1980s and now only has a single restaurant left operating in Columbus, Ohio. That's true of a number of brands including Sizzler, Ponderosa, and Ground Round. A few of these chains, however, including one that went fully out of business and did not have a single operating restaurant for 16 years, are attempting to make a real comeback. Casa Bonita Founded in 1968. Once had multiple locations in OK, AR, and TX. Only the Lakewood, Colorado location remains as of 2025. Feds to build new campground near Capitol Reef National Park

just now (299+ words) Federal land managers say a new campground near Capitol Reef National Park should help to alleviate the impacts of growing visitation to Utah's outdoor gems. Bureau of Land Management officials announced Tuesday that they've signed a decision that will create the Beas Lewis Flat Campground, flipping an unmanaged dispersed camping area into a managed facility. The site, located less than a half-mile from state Route 24 between Torrey and Capitol Reef, will feature 45 campsites in its first phase. "The (bureau) is committed to increasing recreational access while maintaining responsible resource stewardship," said David Mortensen, the bureau's Richfield field manager, in a statement. "By authorizing this campground, we're improving the visitor experience and addressing long-standing concerns about unmanaged dispersed camping in the area." New interpretive signage will also be added, including information about the benefits of the region's dark skies, according to…...

Worcester City Council backs campaign encouraging street play

1+ min ago (368+ words) A campaign to get children playing out in the street has been backed by Worcester City Council. Play Streets encourages neighbours to get together and create a safe space in quiet residential roads for children to play together, usually involving closing the street to through traffic for a short time. Green councillor Katie Collier, who described the scheme as "low cost, high impact" said outdoor play had declined 50% in a generation with traffic, fear of crime and "unwelcoming public spaces" among the reasons. A motion put forward by Collier and backed by councillors includes a commitment to review signs "that may unintentionally discourage informal outdoor play". Residents can still get in and out of the street in their cars during Play Streets events, but are encouraged to drive slowly, with children having right of way. The scheme gives children the…...

Convicted Liar Makes Wild Attempt to Disprove ‘Lies’ About Trump’s Decline

1+ min ago (327+ words) Entertaining that those who lied so convincingly about the fact that Joe Biden was a veritable incoherent vegetable when he was president now insist Trump, who I saw only days ago and who is no different than he has been in the 50 years I have known him, is slipping and near death," Stone wrote. Stone's claims that Trump is no different" now than at any other point in their longstanding relationship come amid widespread alarm over the state of the president's mental health. Recent incidents'like calling a female reporter piggy" and branding Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker a big fat slob'are hardly departures for a leader whose unfiltered ramblings and appetite for controversy have reshaped the political landscape over the past decade. But his recent antics'including nodding off in official meetings, frequent memory lapses, and bouts of verbal confusion'have fueled growing…...
